As fall is quickly approaching, the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF) is asking for your help in collecting acorns.
Each year they collect acorns to grow seedlings that the public can buy.
VDOF plants thousands of pounds of acorns each year so any number of acorns you collect will help.
But this year they are seeing a few less acorns when compared to last year.
“This year, we're not seeing as many acorns as we usually do,” says VDOF Nursery Forester Joshua McLaughin. “That could be because last year there were a lot of acorns out. So, this year the trees might be taking a break.”
Keep the acorns in a dry cool spot so they don't dry out.
You have until October 10th to get them to VDOF.
