RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Virginia Employment Commission says the state's jobless rate remained steady in October after falling in September.
The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.6 percent both months. That's down from 5.6 percent in August, and down from 5.8 percent in October 2012.
Officials say seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment was down 5,400 jobs between September and October.
Virginia's unemployment rate had been trending down since joblessness peaked at 7.4 percent from December 2009 until March 2010.
The Labor Department says the national unemployment rate was 7.3 percent in October. Unemployment information was delayed due to the federal government shutdown in early October.
