ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (AP) - A 36-year-old Smithfield man has been killed after he was thrown from his motorcycle during a police chase.

Media reports say William Cary Parker was being pursued by a Surry County sheriff's deputy early Saturday in Isle of Wight County when he lost control of his bike, was thrown from the machine and he was struck by the pursuing deputy's vehicle.

State Police say Parker was one of two motorcycle riders who were clocked speeding before the police pursuit. The other motorcycle rider fled.

State Police are investigating the crash.
