Va. Unemployment Up for June

Unemployment numbers are out for cities and counties in Central Virginia for the month of June.

Albemarle (5.3 percent), Fluvanna (4.9 percent), Greene (4.6 percent), Madison (5 percent) and Nelson (5.9 percent) Counties all had an increase in unemployment from May to June. Though, all of those counties stayed below the state unemployment rate of six percent.

Buckingham (7.6 percent), Culpeper (6.3 percent) and Orange (6.5 percent) Counties, as well as the City of Charlottesville (6.6 percent) saw more unemployment from May to June as well.

The rates has risen since May; Albemarle, +0.6 percent; Buckingham, +0.4 percent; Charlottesville, +0.5 percent; Culpeper, +0.4 percent; Fluvanna, +0.4 percent; Greene, +0.2 percent; Madison, +0.3 percent; Nelson, +1.0 percent; Orange, +0.3 percent.

All counties and cities in our area remain below the national jobless rate of 7.8 percent.
