A former attorney in southwestern Virginia has pleaded guilty to defrauding clients.
U.S. Attorney Timothy Heaphy says 59-year-old David Eugene Cecil of Grundy pleaded guilty Monday to mail fraud, money laundering and tax evasion. Cecil faces up to 45 years in prison when he is sentenced in federal court in Abingdon on Jan. 24.
Heaphy says Cecil admitted stealing more than $175,000 from trust accounts that he had been hired to administer for the late Robert and Nancy Baxter.
The investigation also found that Cecil evaded payment of more than $250,000 in federal income taxes.
