Virginia Beach and a contractor are offering a $500,000 settlement to the family of a homeless man who was run over and killed by a trash truck.
Attorneys for the city and the family of 52-year-old Michael Knockett tell media outlets that the family agreed to accept the settlement of their lawsuit.
But Knockett's daughter, Inena Tatem, says she hasn't decided whether to accept it. She's the administrator of Knockett's estate.
Authorities say Knockett was sleeping in a chair on the beach when the trash truck ran over him on June 28, 2010.
A judge ruled last year the family couldn't sue the city because it's protected by sovereign immunity. The settlement applies to the claim against a city truck driver and two workers for Abacus Corp., a temporary-worker agency.
