Stafford County authorities say an 11-year-old boy with autism has drowned in a retention pond.
The sheriff's office tells media outlets that the boy left his home in the Somerset Landing subdivision off U.S. 1 unnoticed. His mother found him in the pond in the neighborhood.
A man walking his dog saw the mother and helped her get the boy out of the pond. The boy was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The incident occurred Monday. The boy's name hasn't been released.
