Va. Harbor Closed for Diesel Fuel Spill

October 19, 2010

A diesel fuel spill has closed the small boat harbor in Newport News.

The Newport News Fire Department says in a news release that firefighters and hazardous materials crews responded to the spill shortly after 7 a.m Tuesday.

The Coast Guard says about 25 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the harbor.

The source of the spill hasn't been determined.

A retention boom has been placed across the harbor's mouth and around all drains to contain the spill.

No other information was immediately available.
