Va. Man Faces Murder Charge in 3-year-old's Death

April 6, 2012

A Danville man faces first-degree murder charges stemming from the death of a 3-year-old girl.

The Danville Register & Bee reports that a grand jury indicted 23-year-old Shonta Montrez Barnhill-Sherrod on Thursday.

Danville police say Barnhill-Sherrod was the caretaker of 3-year-old Teliajah Sashay Brown when she died Tuesday. The child was his girlfriend's daughter.

Emergency responders found the girl in respiratory distress at an apartment in Danville. They couldn't resuscitate her and she was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A medical examiner determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

Sherrod Brown is being held at the Danville City Jail without bond.
