Va. Man Shot to Death During Traffic Stop

December 17, 2010

Petersburg police say an officer has shot and killed a man during a traffic stop.

Police spokeswoman Esther Hyatt says an altercation occurred during the stop late Wednesday night, and the officer was dragged alongside the suspect's car. The officer, who was not identified, fatally shot 22-year-old Stephen Lee of Petersburg.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that Petersburg police requested help from the Virginia State Police in investigating, and the officer was placed on administrative leave pending the results of the probe.
