Va. Men Plead Guilty in Multi-State Drug Ring

Two Newport News men have pleaded guilty in a drug trafficking ring that stretched from California to New York and the South.

U.S. Attorney Neil MacBride says 42-year-old Robert Edward Sargent Jr. and 31-year-old Kenny Jones pleaded guilty Wednesday. Court document say Sargent ran the organization, with cocaine and marijuana being supplied from New York, California, Georgia, North Carolina and Texas.

Court documents say Sargent employed a large network of couriers and distributors, including Jones.

Both face up to life in prison. Sargent will be sentenced July 25; Jones on June 28.

More than two dozen others also were charged with crimes in the drug ring. Ten others have pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing. A jury trial for the remaining defendants is scheduled for April 30.
