February 14, 2011

Police have arrested three people stemming from the theft of $65,000 in income tax software in Hampton Roads.

Newport News police spokesman Lou Thurston says 45-year-old Kimberly Slaughter of Newport News and 41-year-old Augustine McClain of Alexandria surrendered to police on Saturday.

They were being held at the Newport News Jail on Sunday. A jail spokeswoman says Slaughter was charged with shoplifting and McClain was initially charged with a probation violation.

Thurston says 39-year-old Nathaniel Speller of Newport News was arrested last week and charged with grand larceny and conspiracy.

The merchandise was stolen primarily from Target and Walmart stores.
