Va. Social Worker Pleads Guilty to Fraud

October 28, 2010

A former Grayson County senior social worker has pleaded guilty to defrauding two elderly patients under her care.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Heaphy said 36-year-old Jennifer Edward Hall of Galax pleaded guilty Wednesday to bank fraud, access device fraud and conspiracy to commit access device fraud. Sentencing is set for Jan. 24 in U.S. District Court in Abingdon.

Hall admitted stealing nearly $35,000 from the bank accounts of an 88-year-old dementia patient and an 81-year-old person. Heaphy called her actions "despicable" and said they warrant harsh punishment. She faces up to 50 years in prison.
