Va. Woman Sentenced for Role in Contract Scheme

June 20, 2012

An Alexandria woman will spend more than a year in prison for her role in a scheme involving Coast Guard contracts.

Thirty-six-year-old Danielle Daniese Ferreira also must pay more than $98,000 in restitution to the U.S. Treasury.

Ferreira had pleaded guilty to wire fraud last December. She was sentenced to a year and nine months in prison Monday evening in U.S. District Court in Norfolk.

Ferreira was a lieutenant in the Coast Guard and worked in the contracting section of the U.S. Coast Guard Maintenance and Logistics Command. Court records say Ferreira planned to assist her cousin in securing ship repair contracts for her company. Ferreira recommended her cousin's company on nine procurement request for Coast Guard cutter repairs.
