A Virginia woman was has been accused of trying to kill herself and her 5-year-old granddaughter in North Carolina.
Winston-Salem police say 43-year-old Angela Terri Lynch of Christiansburg, Va., is charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and felony child abuse.
Police were called to a hotel Thursday after the staff found a woman and a girl semi-conscious in a room. Capt. David Clayton said there was blood in the room and Lynch and the child suffered similar injuries. Clayton says they had taken a number of medications.
The girl was in stable condition at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Lynch was treated, released and arrested.
Christiansburg police say the girl was taken from a local elementary school Wednesday.
