Van Taking Kids to Halloween Party Crashes; 8 Injured

November 1, 2010

At least eight people were taken to the hospital after a van they were riding in went off the road into an embankment in Augusta County.

It happened just before 7 p.m. on Route 42 near Moscow Loop.

Firefighters say the van, driven by 42-year-old Gary Allman of Weyers Cave, was heading south on Route 42. According to Virginia State Police, Allman was carrying several kids under the age of 10. Officials say the kids were heading to a Halloween party.

Ambulances from Churchville, Mount Solon and Bridgewater Fire and Rescue agencies took passengers to the hospital.

Route 42 was shut down for about two hours while crews cleared the scene.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
