LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - The number of international students continues to rise at Liberty University.
The Lynchburg university says 8 percent of its students come from Canada and abroad, with many originating from the Far East.
Officials tell The News & Advance (http://bit.ly/1jIeb64 ) international enrollment has kept pace with overall growth.
Residential enrollment has gone from about 5,000 to more than 12,500 in the last 10 years. A $500 million reconstruction on campus will accommodate 16,000 residential students.
Almost 1,000 Liberty students are international this year. Overall, more than 16,500 international students attended Virginia schools last year, based on data from the Institute of International Education.
Liberty was founded by the late Moral Majority leader Jerry Falwell.
