Virginia Landmarks Register Adds 9 Sites

July 6, 2013

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The latest entries to the Virginia Landmarks Register include a rare surviving slave cabin and the site of a fort built under the supervision of George Washington.

They are among nine sites added to the register by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. The register is the state's official list of important places.

Other additions include the boyhood home of the early 20th century black educator Robert Russa Moton and a subdivision in northern Virginia that features architecturally significant modern houses.

Other historic additions are located in Roanoke, Winchester, Orange and Prince Edward counties and Hanover.

The nine sites will be forwarded to the National Park Service for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
