Virginia War Memorial to Display Letters to Home

February 3, 2013

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Letters written by three brothers to their mother while serving overseas during World War II are part of a new exhibit at the Virginia War Memorial.

"Letters from the Battlefield" opens Monday and runs through Feb. 25.

The special exhibit showcases personal correspondence from military members to loved ones back home. They include letters written during World War II and the Vietnam War, and emails written by military members serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Memorial education assistant Kyndall Drumheller says the correspondence came from the museum's archives and the attics of some museum volunteers.

She says she was especially touched by the brothers' letters to their mother. One was killed in action and didn't make it home.
