Virginia School of the Arts to Close in May

January 24, 2011

Declining enrollment is forcing them Virginia School of the Arts to close.

The News & Advance reports that the private dance education institution in Lynchburg will close after the current semester ends May 28. The school's board of directors approved the closure last week.

Board president Turner Perrow says enrollment has fallen below the threshold needed to maintain the school.

Director of operations Leslie Kozera says enrollment peaked at 56 students in the early 2000s. Sixteen students are enrolled this year.
