Virginia Tech Board Bans Concealed Firearms, Other Weapons

March 27, 2012

A new regulation at Virginia Tech bans concealed firearms and other weapons from university buildings and major events.

The Roanoke Times reports that Virginia Tech's Board of Governors approved the regulation Monday. It replaces an existing policy.

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli issued an opinion last July saying such policies don't apply to holders of concealed weapons permits. Cuccinelli wrote that a regulation carries the force of law in Virginia.

A gunman killed 32 people and himself at Virginia Tech in 2007.
