Virginia Tech Working Toward Camera-Covered Campus

Virginia Tech is working toward a camera-covered campus.
The Blacksburg university has partnered with Northern Virginia-based X7 Systems Integration under a nearly $1 million contract to install a networked video security system.
The project could ultimately result in up to 2,500 security cameras being installed around the 2,600-acre campus over the next several years.
University officials told The Roanoke Times that the project is part of an ongoing effort to make the campus of the worst mass shooting in U.S. history safer.
And while cameras already are part of campus life, officials say there hasn't been a policy or directive in place to manage the cameras more effectively.
Police have talked about a centralized security camera system for years. With the contract, that process is now under way.
