Voters elected Steve Smith as the next Greene County Sheriff. He received 55% of the vote over opponent Randall Snead, a Major in the Greene County Sheriff's Office.

Smith, who currently serves as Master Deputy in the Albemarle County Sheriff's Office, says he will implement new programs in the sheriff's department and enhance community response.

"It's a great feeling to have this much support. I'm just really looking forward to starting the new job," said Smith.

On the Greene County Board of Supervisors, Davis Lamb will represent the Ruckersville District. David Cox won over incumbent Supervisor Michael Skeens in the Monroe District. Eddie Deane beat incumbent Supervisor Carl Schmitt in the at-large seat on the board.

There will also be two new members of the Greene County School board. Sharon Mack will represent the Ruckersville District and Rodney Kibler won the Monroe District seat.

By street level do you mean court room security? Or maybe transporting prisoners. He has such an impressive record. I wonder why he left Greene County in the first place to go work for Albemarle? Real police work may have been too hard for him or maybe he wasn't man enough to cut it in the Willy Morris days.

You must be joking... At least I hope you are. If Randy Snead does not have the proper experience for the job could you define what that is? Driving from the jail to the court, or maybe from the court to the jail? Or I guess on a really tough day serving civil papers? Wow that is hard core police work. I wonder if anyone will ever ask Mr. Smith in his 30 years of "Law Enforcement" aka court security how many people he has arrested? I bet its in the double digits. What a joke.

I know a few people who voted for Smith because of alledged immorality in the current department.
