Fifth District Congressman Robert Hurt now has a Democratic challenger for his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Peyton Williams recently announced he is running for the Democratic nomination. Although he is running as a Democrat, the Charlottesville native says he is a moderate in the race.

"I'm a moderate, and that's a key point. If I make it to Congress - when I make it to Congress - I am going to be there working with both sides of the aisle," he said.

Williams feels that the current leadership Congress has been at a standstill for the past year.

"Mr. Hurt has been one of those that has followed the Republican line right down the whole way. He is beginning now to start to talk about compromise, but he spent a year in Congress without doing it. Looking at his track record I think we need to move forward," he argued.

Williams retired from the Army in 1999. He teaches SCUBA diving lessons and is an active leader for the Boy Scouts.

Maybe that should be "aisle". On the other hand, I don't mind being an "isle" away from Democrats 8^)
