Madison and Fluvanna counties are both searching for new school superintendents to replace their outgoing ones. The Virginia School Board Association said the number of applicants for superintendents has decreased considerably in the past few years.

A meeting with the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors lasted nearly six hours Wednesday night. More than 800 people were in attendance. The board heard from both supporters and opponents of a tax hike that could help offset a budget deficit.

Benefit Concert Supports Local School

This Saturday, Fry's Spring Beach Club will host the "Winter Wonder Jam," a benefit concert featuring eight local bands. The concert will support the Park Street Academy, a Charlottesville non-profit school for students with unique learning needs.

Local Schools Celebrate Dr. Seuss's 106th Birthday

To commemorate Dr. Seuss's birthday, local schools like Hollymead Elementary participated in the annual Read Across America project. Kids colored Dr. Seuss pictures, sampled green eggs and ham and played with a strange concoction called "oobleck."

Albemarle County's Henley Middle school will be buzzing with excitement Tuesday when 8th-grader Helen Given returns to class. Given was named the spelling bee champion at Monday night's division spelling bee.
