A Citizens Advisory Committee appointed by Superintendent Dr. Pam Moran came up with recommendations to help with the overcrowding problem in Albemarle County Public Schools.

The committee recommended moving almost 130 students, who currently attend Hollymead Elementary School and live in neighborhoods west of Route 29, to Baker-Butler Elementary School.

Superintendent Moran is reviewing the recommendations and will present the redistricting plan to the Albemarle County School Board Thursday.

The neighborhoods affected include Dickerson North/Chris Greene, Airport Acres/Cedar Hill, Forest Spring/Dickerson South, Deerwood/Airport Road and Abington/Timberwood.

Fourth graders and their siblings who attend Hollymead Elementary School will have the option to stay at the school through the fifth grade.

Nail on the head, JennB. We even used to call it "the illusion of democracy." It's a time-honored strategy in ACPS.

Sorry you see it that way, JennB. But Hollymead is already 80 students over capacity and expected to be 140 in about 2 years. Why continue to stress the school and staff when there is plenty of room at Baker Butler. Something has to give and it would be better to make a bigger move now instead of having to do this again in 2 years. Kudos to the committee who DID listen to community input. Sorry that they disagreed with you.

It was all an illusion of input. They knew ahead of time what they were going to do and they just wanted to placate us by making us feel we actually had a say in their decision, but just like everything else, they do what they want to do regardless of our opinions as parents.
