Louisa County is inching closer to getting its middle and high school students back on a normal schedule.

Crews have been working for months on the modular high school. Now, all the trailers are up in the old high school parking lot and the classrooms are being transferred to the units.

High school students will move into the mobile classrooms on Feb. 1. and return to a Monday-Friday schedule.

Students have been sharing the Louisa County Middle School building since the 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Central Virginia on Aug. 23 and left the high school unusable. They've been alternating on an extended hours every-other-day schedule that included Saturday classes for middle schoolers, but that will disappear when the modular high school opens.

High school students will have instruction from 8 a.m. to 3:52 p.m. each day, while middle school students go from 7:55 a.m. to 3:40 p.m.

Thomas Jefferson Elementary students continue to share space with Trevilians Elementary. School officials say that arrangement will continue for at least two more years while they determine whether TJES needs to be rebuilt.
