Governor Bob McDonnell announced Thursday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded $19 million to rebuild Louisa County High School, which was severely damaged during the Aug. 23 earthquake and subsequent aftershocks.

“This news could not come at a better time. [Thursday] is the six month anniversary of the devastating earthquake, and these funds will help Louisa County take a big step on the road to recovery,” said Gov. McDonnell.

The cost to rebuild the school is estimated at $43 million. A combination of insurance and state and local funds will pay for the remaining balance of the new school’s construction.

This comes three weeks after FEMA awarded $3.2 million to Louisa County for the rebuilding of Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.

In addition, FEMA has provided $13 million in disaster aid to homeowners in the counties of Albemarle, Culpeper, Fluvanna, Goochland, King George, Louisa, Orange, Spotsylvania and the city of Fredericksburg.
