Charlottesville's School Superintendent, Dr. Rosa Atkins, says closing an elementary school would help balance the budget.
During a luncheon with city councilors and school bard members Friday, Dr. Atkins said closing an elementary school could help save about $1.6 million immediately.
The school leader says the school system will be receiving about $3 million less this year in state funds. She says other options to help with the budget would be teacher lay-offs, larger class sizes and cuts to some programs.

TAKE AWAY THE TABLETS FIRST!!! End this program. It has no proven educational value. Why should we be paying for something that not every C'ville taxpayer has access to?

I agree, the tablets purchase was a bad idea both from a financial and hardware standpoint. Under powered technology with lipstick!! They say the purchase was from other funds, but the cost of ownership will have to be picked up in the budget at some point. You can save money by getting rid of the person making poor technology decisions.

So, there is a budget deficit? Possibly there was not enough funds to support the purchase and maintenance of all the tablets? I saw this one coming.
