Virginia Tech has announced sophomore guard Robert Brown is transferring.
Coach James Johnson said Wednesday the Clermont, Fla., native will leave after the spring semester.
Brown was the Hokies' third-leading scorer, averaging 8.3 points, but his season went the same way the Hokies' did.
Heralded as a shooter with range, Brown averaged 14.4 points in Virginia Tech's first eight games as the Hokies started 7-1, then entered a prolonged shooting slump. He finished the season shooting 33.1 percent from the field and was 24 of 102 from 3-pointer range (23.5 percent).
Brown is the fifth player to leave Virginia Tech since 2010, joining Ben Boggs, Tyrone Garland, Manny Atkins and Dorian Finney-Smith.
The Hokies also lost top recruit Montrezl Harrell to Louisville when Seth Greenberg was fired after last season.
