Big Night for Towns at College Home Run Derby

The top power bats in college baseball were in Omaha Wednesday night for the College Home Run Derby and Virginia's Kenny Towns wowed the crowd at TD Ameritrade Park.

Towns finished the night with eight home runs and earned a spot in the second round.

He started the first round slow but caught on fire with three outs to go. A high flly to left got him on the board, and after he deposited another one into the stands, he took the "Money Ball" -- counting as two home runs -- deep and gone, giving him four for the first round and punching his ticket to the second.

He was sitting on six in the second round when once again he drilled the Money Ball over the wall to give him eight total.

However, eight wasn't enough as Rice's Mike Aquino and Georgia Tech's Matt Dominguez advanced to the final, where Aquino won on a walk-off shot.

The Derby will air on ESPN Thursday night at 8 p.m.
