The Virginia softball team dropped its ACC Championship quarterfinal against NC State, 7-0, Thursday afternoon. The Cavaliers finish the season with a 21-28 record.

Virginia’s best chance to score was in the seventh, when seniors Kristen Hawkins and Lauren Didlake both walked and sophomore Peyton Larus was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs, but State was able to get out of the innings unharmed.
Virginia senior Melanie Mitchell (16-17) struck out five in six innings and finishes her collegiate career as the fourth ACC pitcher to earn 1,100 strikeouts (1,101 total). She also finishes as the UVa career leader in wins (79), complete games (117), innings pitched (942.0), starts (144) and appearances (161).
