Cavs Collapse Late vs. FSU in ACC Tournament

Virginia's run at the ACC Tournament ended with a thud Saturday night as the Cavalier bullpen imploded in a 6-4 loss to Florida State. The Cavaliers fell to 44-13 with the loss and finish Tournament play 1-2.

The 'Hoos led 4-1 going into the seventh but watched as FSU got to Connor Jones and Josh Sborz for four runs on three hits and three walks, giving them a 5-4 lead. They would add an insurance run in the eighth to seal it.

Virginia used a three-run third to take a 3-1 lead, thanks to a two-run home run by Brandon Downes and an RBI single from Joe McCarthy. The 'Hoos then made it 4-1 in the fifth on a Matt Thaiss run-scoring base hit.

The 'Hoos wasted a solid start on the mound from ACC Co-Pitcher of the Year Nathan Kirby. The sophomore fired six full innings, allowing just an unearned run.

Virginia will now await word on its NCAA Regional schedule. That announcement is expected Sunday night.
