UPDATE: UVa's Nicholson to Miss Maryland Game

Junior cornerback Demetrious Nicholson has started all 30 games or the Virginia football team since his arrival in Charlottesville before the 2011 season. But that streak will end Saturday.

Nicholson was listed as out for Saturday's game at Maryland with a lower body injury, according to the team's official injury report. Through the first five games of the season, Nicholson has 20 tackles, with four pass breakups and an interception.

The injury report did not include junior offensive lineman Conner Davis, who started Virginia's first two games at right guard, but missed the last three with a lower body injury.

Coach Mike London had said earlier in the afternoon on Thursday that he expected Davis to return to the starting lineup on Saturday.

"It looks like he's going to be back and playing. We've missed him for a while," London said. "We want to make sure we have a full compliment of players that can help us, on this particular trip up to Maryland."

London said Davis will move to left guard, where senior Luke Bowanko has started the season's first five games. Bowanko will slide over to center, where he started all 12 games last year -- and Ross Burbank and Jackson Matteo have split time this season.

Jay Whitmire will remain at right guard, where he shifted to last week after starting the first four games at right tackle. True freshman Eric Smith will make his second consecutive start at right tackle against the Terrapins.

"He did a nice job," London said of Smith's performance last week against Ball State, "and now he's got his second college start."

London also said junior tight end Zach Swanson will travel to Maryland, though his status for Saturday is less clear. Swanson has missed the last two games after suffering a knee injury against VMI.

"Let's just say he'll make the trip, and we'll see what happens on game day," London said.

Swanson was officially listed as probable in the team's injury report. The only other players mentioned were kicker Ian Frye and offensive lineman Sadiq Olanrewaju. Both were listed as out.
