Harris' Big Day Nets National Honor

Anthony Harris did it all for the Cavaliers in Saturday's win over BYU and on Sunday the junior strong safety was recognized nationally for his effort.

Harris was named the Walter Camp Foundation Defensive Player of the Week for Week 1 thanks to his monster day against the Cougars.

He tallied 11 tackles, including three solo stops, recorded one quarterback sack, blocked a punt and intercepted a pass in the Hoos' 19-16 win.

Harris’ blocked punt in the third quarter set up Virginia’s first touchdown.

With UVa trailing 16-12 and three minutes left to play, Harris picked off a third-down BYU pass, returned it six yards and then pitched the ball to linebacker Henry Coley, who ran another 27 yards. Virginia scored the winning touchdown on the next play.

Alabama's Christion Jones was the offensive player of the week. Jones accounted for 256 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns as the top-ranked Crimson Tide defeated Virginia Tech, 35-10.
