The Virginia softball team fell in the series finale to Virginia Tech, 11-3 in five innings, Sunday afternoon at Tech Softball Park. With the loss, the Cavaliers dropped to 6-35 and 1-19 in ACC play.
The Cavaliers struck first with a run in the first, but the Hokies scored eight in the second inning to break open the game. Senior Marcy Bowdren reached on an error in the top of the first and came around to score on a freshman Madison Labshere single for UVa’s first run.
Virginia added two in the fifth when freshman Lindsay Mayer singled home sophomore Taylor Sarcone and freshman Iyana Hughes scored on a grounder by Labshere.
Up next, the Cavaliers host Notre Dame in a three-game series April 18-19. Friday evening’s doubleheader is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start, while Saturday’s first pitch is slated for noon. Saturday will be Senior Day and the Cavaliers’ three seniors will be recognized in a short ceremony before the game.
