'Hoos Silence Liberty's Bats in 2-0 Win

The Virginia baseball team has had no problem handling non-conference opponents on its home field this season. On Tuesday, the Cavaliers showed they can take care of business on the road as well.

In front of a sold-out crowd at Liberty, four Virginia pitchers combined to one-hit the Flames in a 2-0 victory. The Cavaliers improved to 26-3 overall this season, and 17-0 against non-conference opponents. Virginia hadn't played a non-ACC opponent on the road since opening the season with back-to-back wins at East Carolina in February.

Both Virginia runs came in the top of the first, on a bases-loaded walk by Kenny Towns and infield RBI single by Nick Howard.

Trey Wimmer's lead-off double in the second was the Flames' lone hit of the game. It came off freshman starter Josh Sborz (3-0), who struck out five in four innings of work. Fellow freshman Nate Kirby relieved Sborz in the fifth, and struck out six in 3.1 hitless innings.

Austin Young got the final two outs in the eighth before giving way to Kyle Crockett, who pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the save.
