Further proof that big things are expected of the Virginia men's basketball team came with Thursday's release of the preseason USA Today coaches poll.
The Cavaliers were voted the 25th and final team in that preseason poll. The UVa program was last included in a preseason poll in 2001, when the Cavaliers were No. 11 in both the Associated Press and coaches rankings.
Virginia was last nationally ranked the week of February 27, 2012, when the Cavaliers were No. 24 in the AP poll. Their last appearance in the coaches poll was two weeks earlier in February 2012.
Preseason ACC favorite Duke is the highest-ranked team from the conference, at No. 4 in the poll -- behind Kentucky, Michigan State, and future ACC member Louisville.
ACC newcomer Syracuse is ranked No. 7, while North Carolina is 11th and Notre Dame is No. 22.
