Kirby, Howard Earn All-American Honors

Virginia pitchers Nathan Kirby and Nick Howard continued to pile up postseason accolades Thursday as the two were named Louisville Slugger All-Americans.

Kirby was a first-team selection as a starter and Howard earned third-team honors as a reliever.

Kirby was recently named first-team All-ACC and Co-Pitcher of the Year in the league. The sophomore lefty started 14 games during the regular season and went 8-1 with a 1.48 ERA and 93 strikeouts. On April 4, he fired a no-hitter at Pittsburgh while striking out 18 batters, which was one off the school and ACC records. Kirby also was recently named to the 2014 U.S. Collegiate National Team.

Howard was also a first-team All-ACC pick after making the move to closer this season. The junior fireballer tied the UVa record with 18 saves in 2014. He appeared in 26 games and finished 2-1 with a 2.22 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 28 innings of work.

Virginia opens NCAA Regional play Friday when the Cavaliers host Bucknell Friday at 2 p.m.
