Madison, Cavs Try to Stay Hot at Home

Darius Madison knows what he will remember most about his first career two-goal game at Virginia.

"It felt good just to silence the crowd," the sophomore forward said Monday. "Just hearing silence and just hearing our team, cheering me on, and us celebrating, it felt good. I never scored a goal away. So my first time, against the No. 2 team in the country, felt really good."

Madison scored the only two goals of the Cavaliers' 2-0 win at No.2 Notre Dame on Saturday, giving the Irish their first loss of the season. On Monday, College Soccer News named Madison its national player of the week for that performance.

That win also extended the Cavaliers' unbeaten streak to 10 straight matches, the program's longest since the 2009 team finished its national championship season with 16 unbeaten. Virginia's last loss came at Wake Forest on September 13.

"As the games went on, and we kept winning and avoiding losses, we just felt confident as we kept going on. And we're going to keep feeling confident," Madison said of the unbeaten streak. "It doesn't matter who we play. As long as we're confident with our game, we know we can beat them."

Virginia now wraps up the regular season with three straight games at Klöckner Stadium, beginning with Tuesday's non-conference finale against UNC-Greensboro. The Cavaliers are 5-0-2 at home since opening the season with a 2-1 loss to Louisville at Klöckner.

Virginia is 6-0-4 during their 10-game unbeaten streak, which has improved their overall record to 7-3-4. Saturday's win at Notre Dame also moved the Cavaliers up 13 spots in the latest RPI rankings, to No. 14.

"We looked really good on paper. And it was a matter of getting the chemistry down," Madison said. "We all knew that it was coming, it was just a matter of time. And finally we're getting the ball rolling, and we're making things happen. And finally things are looking to go our way."
