The No. 5 Virginia rowing team swept nine races at the UVa Invitational Saturday on Lake Monticello. The regatta marked the final home competition for 15 Cavaliers, who were honored in a brief ceremony after the action.
After dropping two races last week at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, the Cavaliers’ Varsity Eight bounced back and picked up wins over No. 17 Syracuse and Michigan State. Virginia’s Second Varsity Eight defeated the Orange and Spartans.
In the Varsity Four races, both of UVa’s crews defeated Michigan State.
Virginia Third and Fourth Varsity Eights defeated George Mason in the morning, while the Fifth Varsity Eight placed ahead of Duke and UVa’s Sixth Varsity Eight. In the last race of the day, Virginia’s Third and Fourth Varsity Eights defeated Syracuse’s 3V8.
UVa’s 5V8 and 6V8 competed against each other in the first session, with the 5V8 coming up with the win.
Next up, the Cavaliers will travel to Clemson, S.C., for the ACC Championships on May 16-17. Virginia has captured four consecutive conference titles and 13 of 14.
