The No. 7 Virginia baseball team finished off a three-game series sweep of No. 5 Florida State with a 5-2 victory Sunday afternoon in front of a capacity crowd at Davenport Field. Virginia (35-6, 16-5) outscored the Seminoles 16-4 and did not trail in the series in recording the program’s first-ever three-game series sweep against FSU.
Virginia drew 13,890 fans for the series, a program record for a three-game series. Sellout crowds of 4,980 attended each of the final two games this weekend.
Virginia’s pitching again was outstanding Sunday as Nick Howard and three relievers scattered six hits and four walks.
Jared King went 3-for-4 Sunday and had the key hit of the game for Virginia, a two-run double in the third inning which helped to clear the bases and break a scoreless tie.
The Cavaliers play two home midweek games this week, taking on Richmond (Tuesday) and James Madison (Wednesday) on 6 p.m. contests at Davenport Field. UVa heads to Blacksburg next weekend to take on Virginia Tech in a three-game ACC series.
