Virginia junior midfielder Morgan Brian became the first woman in UVa soccer history to win the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy. The award, which is the most prestigious accolade in collegiate soccer, was given out Friday night at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Brian was the leading scorer in the ACC this season with 46 points on 16 goals and a league-high 14 assists. Brian scored in all four of the Cavaliers’ NCAA Tournament victories as she led the team to its first College Cup appearance in 22 years.
The UVa junior midfielder was also a first-team All-ACC selection for the third consecutive season, in addition to being named to the ACC All-Tournament Team and the All-NCAA Tournament Team.
The other two finalists for the 2013 award were Abby Dahlkemper of UCLA and Crystal Dunn of North Carolina. Brian is the second Cavalier women’s player to be named a finalist for the award, after Caroline Miller was a finalist in 2012.
The Hermann Trophy is voted upon by NCAA Division I coaches who are NSCAA members.
