Virginia women's soccer shut out the University of Richmond 4-0 Friday night to remain undefeated.
The Cavaliers moved to 2-0 with the win and Richmond fell to 1-2.
The win was also Virginia's second shutout of the season.
Junior forward Brittany Ratcliffe lead the 'Hoos, scoring two goals, while Sophomores Alexis Shaffer and Meghan Cox each scored one of Virginia's other two goals. Senior Danielle Colaprico had two assists.
“I thought our performance was better tonight,” said head coach Steve Swanson. “I thought Richmond played well. They were organized and hustled and made it tough for us to break them down. We are still a work in progress. We did a better job of creating chances tonight, but we need to do better in terms of finishing them. Our objective is to continue to improve with each game.”
The Cavaliers took the lead in the 20th minute of the game as a clearance of a corner kick came to Shaffer at the top of the box. With nine seconds left in the first half, Virginia added its second goal.
Ratcliffe added her two goals in the second half -- just two minutes apart from one another.
Virginia outshot Richmond 27-4 and had a 12-3 corner kick edge.
Virginia concludes its three-game homestand on Sunday, hosting Villanova. Game time at Klöckner Stadium is 2 p.m.
