Albemarle senior runner Adam Visokay announced Friday afternoon that he will run for Virginia next year. Visokay earned a partial scholarship to join the Cavaliers and will compete in all three seasons with the cross country and indoor and outdoor track teams.

"I'm really stoked," said Adam of his future at UVa. "I'm kind of making my decision a little bit late in the process. I have been taking my time, trying to get a feel for all the schools I'm looking at."

Visokay had narrowed his choices to UVa and Georgetown, before calling the team and coaches a better fit at UVa.

"When the coaching staff was announced for UVa, I got to meet Coach Watson and Coach Fetzer, I really like both of those...they're really good men, I think they're gonna be great coaches. Also the team at the UVa, I love the guys, they're so much fun. I'm looking forward to spending the next few years running for UVa."

Adam is the second Patriot in two years to commit to UVa. He'll join former Albemarle teammate and ACC Freshman of the Year Anthony Kostelac at Virginia.

"He was breaking records back before I was running at most meets, it's kind of cool to see him have success and now I've had my own success. I'm really looking forward to running with him and the guys."

"I went to UVa and coached at UVa so I'm very... triply excited," said Albemarle cross country coach Buz Male. "There might be guys who will run faster than Adam Visokay but I think he will have an impact on that team with his leadership and commitment. I won't be surprised if by his second year, he'll be one of those guys who will make a difference."

Visokay was the district and region champion in cross country this past fall, finishing third individually at states. The senior also guided the Patriot boys to a second overall team finish in the Triple-A VSHL meet. Adam finished tenth at the Nike National Championship in Oregon, earning All-American status for his performance.

Next weekend Adam will compete in the state high school indoor championships before capping off his senior year with his final track season this spring.
