The Western Albemarle baseball team swept a double-header home Friday against Fort Defiance, 3-1 and 9-5.
Jack Maynard got the start for the Warriors in the first game and picked up the win on the mound. Jacob Rich came on in relief and notched the save.
Western led 2-1 in the top of the sixth when Fort Defiance had runners on the corners but Maynard struck out Zach Long to get out of the inning.
Parker Morris then doubled in Nate Rhondeau in the bottom half to give Western an insurance run.
Over at Albemarle, the Patriots boys soccer team blanked North Stafford, 1-0. Albemarle controlled play much of the first half and came close in the 24th minute but Ghokan Yetim hit the crossbar off a left-footed strike. The game remained scoreless at the half.
The Patriots finally broke through in the 67th minute as Marcel Berry put it away for Albemarle.
