Former Monticello football star Mike Brown is officially an NFL football player.

The Jacksonville Jaguars promoted Brown, a rookie wide receiver, from the team's practice squad to its active roster on Tuesday. Brown had spent the entire 2012 season on the Jaguars' practice squad.

The Jaguars host the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Brown originally joined the Jaguars as an undrafted rookie free agent, after impressing coaches in a post-draft try-out camp. He was among the final players cut before Jacksonville's regular season opener in September.

Brown moved back to wide receiver with the Jaguars after playing quarterback in college the past two seasons at Liberty. He started 10 games for the Flames in 2011, throwing for 2,664 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Brown, a two-time team MVP at Monticello, was voted All-Jefferson District as a defensive back (first team), quarterback (second team), and punt returner (second team) as a senior in 2006.
