Three Mustang Athletes Sign Letters of Intent

April 16, 2012

Three Monticello seniors signed letters of intent on Monday. Katie Cersley (soccer), Matt Hunt (football), and Mariah Williams (volleyball) have all made plans to continue their athletic careers in college.

Katie Cersley will join her older sister Erin at Troy University next fall and play defense for the Division I Trojan soccer team. Cersley was second-team Jefferson District selection the last two seasons.

Senior lineman Matt Hunt will attend Alderson-Broaddus College in West Virginia. Hunt was a captain for the Mustang football team this season, earning first-team All-District honors. He'll join Charlottesville's Mason Sherry at Alderson-Broaddus and play for the first-year program.

Mariah Williams will join West Virginia Wesleyan College, a Division II volleyball program. She leaves Monticello as the single season assists record holder with 810. Williams lead Monticello to their first ever regional tournament birth her junior year.

"Mariah fit in immediately when she walked onto campus," said head coach Jackie Murphy. "The returning members of the volleyball team and Mariah clicked instantly. It was a perfect fit for both parties. Her personality, academic commitment and hard work on the court is a wonderful combination and we can't wait for her to come in and compete next fall. Mariah has a wonderful court sense. She feeds the attackers and really spreads the offense. Mariah's release is high and quick, something that will be successful in our program."
