15 Camps in 15 Days: Western Albemarle

August 10, 2010

The Western Albemarle football team is coming off its best season in quite some time in 2009. With many players from that team departed, the Warriors eye success with a new group of talent this coming year.

2009 saw Western earn a share of the Jefferson District title, not losing a game until the final week of the regular season, when the Warriors were defeated by Goochland to force a split of the championship. Ed Pierce's team finished the regular season 9-1, 10-2 overall, after winning its first playoff game and falling to Parkview in the Region II title game. However, most of the players at the skill positions from that team are gone, making way for a new group of Warriors.

Mitchell Parks is one key player to keep an eye on. Parks is a middle linebacker for Western and will try his hand at receiver in 2010 as well. Several Warriors will play on both sides of the ball at new positions in order to help with the transition from losing some very talented players from last year's squad.

Pierce and his team open up their schedule on August 27 when Western travels to Waynesboro. Click on the above video link to view Matt Parsons' full preview on the 2010 Western Albemarle Warriors.
