The Western Albemarle girls' volleyball season came to an end Tuesday night with a 3-1 loss to Jamestown High School in the VHSL state quarterfinals. The Warriors matched the program best finish, but fell shy of a historic run into the state semifinals.
The teams battled back and forth all night starting with the opening game. Western lead 13-8 before Jamestown rallied for the 25-23 win. The Warriors returned the favor in game two, evening the match with the same 25-23 edge. The Eagles then answered with back-to-back wins to clinch a spot in the VHSL semifinals on Friday.
Under first year head coach Jena McFaddin, Western finishes the season with a Jefferson District crown, Region II silver, and matched a program best with their VHSL quarterfinal berth.
